INFORMATION'S

Tom Northland was born at Stamsund, Norway in 1896
Under the name: Knut Thorvald Nilsen.

He had several brothers and sisters, so he was the last one in a row of children.
Some of his siblings died at young ages.
His brother Normann took much care of him. Later on was Normann mentioned as the strongest man in Sulitjelma. We do not know the year he left for USA. We have no information about where he has gone or ended his life.

His father was a boat builder in Stamsund where he owned his boatyard and house. His name was also Knut, and they called him Big Knut. (StorKnut) We have a picture.
He came from a district named Rana, nearly in the middle of Norway. And he had at least two brothers there. Really big and bold men as himself, much over 6 ft or 2 m. The highest 2,15 m.

We are going to bring some pictures from Stamsund, but it is difficult to obtain the really old we may need here.

Tom did leave the home as soon as he was confirmed in the church, and that was common in those days, as then one was seen as an adult.

Why more than one name? Did he need aliases? He and a friend escaped from a ship in Canada, what was highly illegal, and that was the first time he needed an alias.
